Rethinking Setbacks
In today's conversation, I am sharing a very personal look into a recent setback in my life.
My neck and I have a tumultuous relationship. I've had three surgeries with the last epic operation in July 2021. If you had asked me a month ago how I was doing, I would have said GREAT! I am about 90% better...until I wasn't.
About three weeks ago, I woke up with that familiar feeling of major pain in my neck. The kind of pain that knocks me off my feet and brings me to tears. This kind of pain is not visible to others...so you might have seen me on-line or in a session and thought there was nothing wrong.
Lesson #1: Don't Judge a Book by It's Cover Accepting that I was having a serious setback felt awful. Like failure. The thought of going backwards broke my heart. But I did it anyway. I literally went back to all the things I did post surgery. I wore my neck collar, I went back to a regular medication schedule and I returned to Physical Therapy. After two weeks of being back on this old routine. I am feeling better.

Lesson #4: Sometimes we have to go backwards to move forward.
And finally, pulling from my own work...I had to get courageous. I had to reconnect with the belief in myself that things will get better...not immediately, but over time.
Lesson #5: Courage takes constant practice Today, after practicing lots of self-care and asking for the support I have needed, I'm ready to put on my sneakers and take my doodles for a stroll in the sunshine!
