This self-paced recognized certification program will help you build competence and confidence around 28 key areas of nonprofit leadership and management. With flexible and engaging microlearning across the always-on online learning platform, Merit®, this certificate offers a professional development experience unique to the needs of nonprofit sector.

With Merit's flexible and interactive short online learning courses, you can earn a certificate tailored to your needs in the nonprofit sector.

In addition to a year-long subscription to the Merit platform, your registration grants you access to our monthly Learning Circle tailored for certification candidates. These hour-long Zoom sessions serve as a platform for consulting with us to maximize the use of your newly acquired skills. Furthermore, you will engage with other nonprofit enthusiasts who are embarking on a similar learning journey.

Q: What is Merit?

A: Merit presents 28 nonprofit professional development online learning tracks (with a total of over 250 individual online courses). These courses are grouped into the six nonprofit capacity areas measured by the organizational assessment, the Impact Capacity Assessment Tool, or "iCAT."

These six core capacities are: leading, learning, resource-generating, managing, overseeing, and planning. (link to the page with all 6 core capacities)

Q: How long will it take me to complete my certification program?

A: Most learners complete the Certificate in 12 months, by spending 1 to 2 hours per week learning

There’s no reason to “fake it until you make it” anymore or spend thousands of dollars on academic programs.

Q: Is This Program Right For Me?

A: This program will benefit anyone who wants to improve their understanding and real-world application of nonprofit leadership strategies and skills. It’s especially useful for those seeking advancement in the sector or leading teams. This program works well for exploring different aspects of nonprofit operations or improving your performance in your current role. It also increases the confidence and credibility of a nonprofit professional at any level.

Q: How Long Do I Have To Complete the Program And Get Certified?

A: You can take a year to complete the Certificate and submit the required work. There’s absolutely no fixed schedule or deadline on coursework completion throughout this year. We do, however, suggest you establish a consistent weekly schedule of 1-2 hours for watching the lesson videos and completing the reflection exercises and other learning activities.

Q: How Much Does The Program Cost?

A: You pay a one-time fee of $1,299 for the Certificate in Nonprofit Capacity Building program, Think Good’s 12-month learning cohort and your 90-Minute Kick Off Coaching session. This price includes all the components listed above. You may also choose to enroll at a monthly rate of $110. 

Q: How does Merit incorporate the training I’m completing
for my CFRE?

A: Full participation in this certificate is applicable for 84 points in Category 1.B Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.

Q: Who is this program designed for?

It's perfect for individuals eager to expand their knowledge base without the hefty financial burden often tied to traditional certifications or advanced degrees.

Regardless of your current role, be it Chief Financial Officer or in a developmental capacity, this program will provide the necessary guidance and support to enable you to become an accomplished professional in the nonprofit sector.

Q: Are There Any Prerequisites for Enrollment?

A: No. Unlike graduate programs or other certifications, you do not need to have completed any prior education to enroll in and benefit from this Certificate program. You also do not need to be currently working in the sector to gain skills, knowledge, and capacity around the 28 topics we tackle in this program. If you are considering entering the field or looking to serve wholeheartedly in a regular volunteer capacity, this course is for you.

Q: Is There A Refund Policy?

A: If you’re not satisfied with the course after 30 days, and you've spent at least an hour on the learning platform, you can email us to request a full refund. Learners who follow along with the program, go through all the materials and actively participate in their learning experience are delighted with the Certificate, and more successful in growing their careers in the nonprofit sector.
